The Most Awesome Socks Ever!
My hat goes off to SueJG. These socks are absolutely brilliant!
Kūkai was the founder of the Shingon sect of Buddhism. He was given the name Kōbō-daishi posthumously, hence the name Kōbō-san. In life he was a busy man wearing the hats (so to speak) of monk, scholar, poet, artist, engineer amongst others. He built the original lecture hall at Tōji temple in Kyoto in 825 A.D.
In honor of him, there is a fair held on the 21st of every month within the temple precincts. (Today is the anniversary of his death.) I was lucky enough to visit back in August. From all the literature I’ve read it’s THE temple market of temple markets in Japan. Who am I to argue?
You’ll notice the umbrella down at the bottom of the picture. You never know when you’re going to need an umbrella in the summertime in Japan.

Does my CTA card work on that?
BTW, big congrats to David! He’s been nominated for a Hugo! Go David!
I saw my first robin today so it must be spring.
There’s snow in the forecast tomorrow.
Grrr!
Revised 3/21/08
The snow is beginning to stick to the ground and Boo! is the only one who’s happy about it.
Boo! has some interesting notions. We were out playing in the snow the other day. I’d pack the snowballs and he’d try to catch them. He caught quite a few as evidenced by the thin layer of snow clinging to his beard, sweater and legs. If he couldn’t, he’d try to find them after they’d exploded. This led to one very funny incident. I threw a snowball which disintegrated before Boo! saw it. Tense and alert, he looked at me and realized I must have thrown something. He glanced at that torn up patch of snow in front of him, but there was no snowball so he decided to search elsewhere, his tail swinging back and forth like a metronome. He bounded around a tree whose, trunk was more than six feet in circumference, and attacked the pristine blanket of snow. I guess it’s pretty cool to think that my dog thinks I can through snowballs through trees. He already thinks I can throw balls around corners.
